Make a Winget package

Post by AFaustini » Sun May 30, 2021 10:12 pm

Last week Microsoft released Winget, a command line package manager.
In next version of Windows 10, winget will be a default part of OS.
Why not release a package of Quickplay on this service?
It's easy to create a package:

I think tbh a main part of the answer is the same as why QuickPlay isn't on any other app repositories: all the spare time I have has to directly go into coding on QuickPlay itself (as well as maintaning the forums, the wiki, the website, the release mechanism, the sourceforge admin). I have no time left for things like this i'm afraid....

i can mantain the package.
The only thing that i need is a self extracting zip to make a package, as Winget doesn't accept (for now) zip files.

Yes. But i have to upload it somewhere. If the .exe is stored along the other official download of QuickPlay it would be ideal for submission.

hmm ok so you're asking me to change the quickplay package from a zip to a self-extracting zip, right?....I'll have to think about that, I don't know how easy it is to automate that for release, and I worry a lot about anti-virus programs kicking off and causing a great deal of work to unblacklist things all over again....Its also occured to me though that Windows Defender does flag up the existing Quickplay package (see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1436#p2008) - I've already fixed this locally but I still haven't found the time to release it, so I'm also worried if you self-extract something that already kicks off Windows Defender and submit it to Microsoft for their own package management service, that might potentially cause some unpleasantness?
