QuickPlay / MAME / Game Type

Hello,

QuickPlay is not showing the correct game type for games.

I use the official MAME catver.ini file here:

http://www.progettosnaps.net/catver/

I download the catver.ini file and placed it in the extras\dats folder

I then launch QuickPlay

QuickPlay now shows this as an example:

Game Name: The Batman
EMulator: MAME
ROM path: MAME\roms\jak_batman.7z
Game Type: Platform/Fighter Scrolling

The game type listed in catver.ini is: Handheld / Plug n' Play TV Game

How do I get QuickPlay to read the catver.ini file correctly? Or is it and I am just missing something?

from memory Ii'm hoping that you are missing that catver is not the only source for game type. There is also catlist and other sources, so MAME can disagree with itself about game type, sometimes several times. ( I had some very good reasons for deciding on the priority for the game type to use out of all these sources).

Is it that? Both of those descriptions would seems to be apt for 'the Batman' (I've always loved 'the Batman' in MAME's set - its so silly!)

Thank you. catver.ini is the only INI file that I have. I do not have catlist. What is QuickPlay's priority? It's pulling this info from somewhere, but where? I have only one INI file, catver.ini

certainly, if you've upgraded MAME, you'll need to run a new MAME scan in QuickPlay, no data is 'live' lookued-up against MAME's ini files, it all happens when you run a scan. I say that because I don't recognise `jak_batman`, I only see `batman` and the catver description for `batman` is correct, ( Platform/Fighter Scrolling) but I haven't upgraded MAME for a little while. Hence it looks like you may be trying to upgrade MAME, and the MAME team have renamed the rom 'batman`? Is it that?

Yes, the latest MAME renamed The Batman ROM set from tbatman to jak_batm

I'll play around with QuickPlay and asee what I can find out.
