Hello,
Using 4.5.0, how do I get QP to scan laguages.ini?
Thank you,

Re: scan languages.ini
do you mean something to do with languages.ini doesn't now work when it did before? Or you wish to do something that hasn't previously been possible? Could you give me more detail pls - what are you trying to do and why doesn't it work?
EDIT: ah perhaps you're referring to the MAME dat file named 'languages.ini'? You use the MAME menu options now and QuickPlay takes care of scanning languages.ini for you as part of the new MAME process (as it finds it in your mame EXTRAs folder along with all the other ini files that are there in the folder called 'folders') - see http://quickplay.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/MAME. The language in the romdata that using the Arcade Roms menu makes is the one stated by MAME's languages.ini (this is more correct, I found, than the previous MAME process QuickPlay used, as it tried to also work out the language by looking at the game's name, but I found that this wasn't reliably the language used by the game)

Re: scan languages.ini
Thank you. Yes, I am referring to the external language.dat file.
Still having a tough time selecting a MAME Extras folder. No matter what folder I direct QP to, I get this:
The selected directory is not a valid MAME Extras folder (needs dats, folders, icons)
language.dat current location: d:\emu\mame\extras
I should be able to tell QP where I stored the language.dat files in, right?

Re: scan languages.ini
In order to make the mame Romdatas, the MAME process in QuickPlay needs to use things from the folders 'dats', 'folders' and 'icons' in the MAME Extras package. It sounds like QuickPlay is not finding those folders in the location you told it was your MAME Extras folder.
You need to use a full MAME Extras folder from the published MAME assets, you aren't supposed to gather the individual files yourself anymore (for a start, there's now way too many individual files needed for you to do that!, but also hey this is the future, man!).
So it sounds to me like you are trying to get your own MAME Extras package together comprised of the individual files that make up the package, is that right? If so, don't do that, its not going to work. If you don't want to download the whole of the MAME Extras for some reason, then it will probably work if you download just those three folders

Re: scan languages.ini
Thank you Butter100fly. I see my issue now ... I created a folder named "extras" and created folder in that folder named dats. Now I have mame\extras\dats I moved the two dats into the dats folder and now QP is happy.
As always, thank you for pointing me in the right direction
